Young Chinese medical scientists should be better able to better explain the advantages of Traditional Chinese Medicine and engage in more studies of the subject, a renowned medical expert said last week.
Zhang Boli, president of the Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a member of the Academic Advisory Committee of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, said that due to the effectiveness of TCM in treating COVID-19, it is gaining wider recognition globally.
Acupuncture and herbal medicines are used in more than 180 countries and regions across the world, and dozens have included these therapies in their health insurance programs, he added.
Zhang is also editor-in-chief of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine, a journal focusing on the latest research and findings in the field of traditional medicine worldwide. He made his remarks during the first meeting of the journal's editorial committee, which was held in Tianjin on Saturday.
Zhang said that he hoped young scientists on the committee would promote the healthy development of acupuncture and herbal medicine, and propose more cutting-edge projects and engage in greater communication with the global community in the future.
