With the bell of the New Year, the year 2022 is approaching. Here, on behalf of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS), I would like to extend holiday greetings and sincere blessings, and say a happy new year to the Chinese medicine practitioners around the world, 277 members of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine organizations distributed in 72 countries and regions on five continents, the experts and scholars in 203 branches, and the friends from all walks of life who concern and support the development and construction of WFCMS.
This year, we were awarded the "Special Consultative Status" by the Non-Governmental Organization Committee of the UN Economic and Social Council. As a result, WFCMS can play a greater role in promoting Chinese medicine to participate in global health governance.
This year, we continued the official relations with the WHO. Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, wrote to express his appreciation for the consistent support of WFCMS to the work of the World Health Organization. We were invited to participate in the 148th Executive Committee of the WHO, the 71st European Conference, the 72nd Western Pacific Conference and the Online Work Conference on Tibetan Medicine Benchmarks. In addition, we also actively participated in the 11th General Assembly of the International Organization for Standardization Technical Committee, participated in the UNESCO Global Conference on the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage, submitted annual periodic reports, and made the voice of the WFCMS in international conferences.
This year, in the face of the repeated international situation of the new crown epidemic, we faced difficulties, pioneered and innovated, coordinated online and offline activities, and created a first-class academic exchange platform. The Sixth Summer Summit of the World Congress of Chinese Medicine was successfully held in Changchun, Jilin on July 31. Liu Xiaofeng, Vice Chairman of the 12th CPPCC National Committee, and Han Jun, Governor of Jilin Province attended and delivered speeches. The 18th World Conference ofChinese Medicine was successfully held in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on December 4. Liang Zhenying, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, attended and delivered speeches. Yu Yanhong, secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, delivered a video speech,former WHO Director-General Chen Feng Fuzhen attended the conference. This is a very meaningful conference held in an extraordinary period. The People's Hero Academician Zhang Boli participated in the conference twice to give keynote speeches during his busy schedule and the five continents vice-chairmen also sent video congratulations. The international academic event had received unprecedented attention and the number of live broadcasts exceeded 3.8 million.
This year, overseas members around the world faced the severe challenges of the epidemic crisis, persisted in conducting academic activities, participated in the fight against the epidemic based on the community, provided medical services to the public, strengthened education and talent training, actively coordinated for support, and promoted the overseas dissemination of Chinese medicine culture. The European Association of Chinese Medicine Experts published "The European Way of Chinese Medicine", which has become an important document that records the 20-year struggle and achievements of European Chinese medicine experts. The International Cooperation Center for Clinical Research of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the Thai Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences held its first international conference, which established a platform for the exchange and discussion of Asian-Pacific Chinese medicine experts and the development of scientific research activities. The Philippine Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture assisted the establishment of standards for the Philippine Traditional Chinese Medicine industry and promoted the incorporation of Chinese Medicine into the Philippine medical system, creating a new situation in the development of Chinese Medicine in the Philippines. The Ontario College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Canada has launched a multilingual video series of "Chinese Medicine Canada", which systematically introduces the development of Chinese medicine in Canada.
Our branches actively carry out academic exchange activities under the normal situation of epidemic prevention and control. This year, more than 90 conferences were held. The total number of online and offline participants exceeded 1 million. The academic vision was broader, the exchange content was richer, and the process was smoother. , Which effectively promoted the exchange and cooperation of Chinese medicine.
This year, the website of Ministry of Health of New Zealand issued a notice on the approval of Chinese medicine legislation, and as a result, Chinese medicine was successfully enacted in New Zealand. This is another milestone measure and progress after the 13th World Congress of Chinese Medicine was successfully held in New Zealand to promote the development of Chinese Medicine in Oceania.
This year, the "World Chinese Medicine Day" commemorative activities were carried out as scheduled. Group members and branches in multiple countries and regions on five continents, including China, Japan, Fiji, Austria, France, Hungary, the United States, and Brazil, overcame difficulties and organized the development. Various celebration activities such as online conferences, public welfare lectures, popular science publicity and offline and online free consultations, etc., were organized and we also held the 5th Chinese Medicine English Translation Competition to vigorously promote the culture of Chinese medicine.
This year, we still insisted on implementing the global anti-epidemic support actions of Chinese medicine. At the same time at the international conference, we organized the "Overseas Chinese Medicine Anti-epidemic Experience Exchange Online Special Session"; relying on the China-France Chinese Medicine Center (Seine) platform to hold the "Chinese Medicine Anti-epidemic Online Sharing Session". We have also invited Chinese anti-epidemic experts on many occasions to provide remote free consultations for patients with new COVID-19 in overseas Chinese, and give full play to the advantages and effects of Chinese medicine in the prevention and treatment of COVID-19. The General Association of Chinese Medicine Practitioners in Thailand has established a Chinese medicine network shelter hospital to provide treatment for infected patients through the Internet and free Chinese medicine decoctions.
This year, we coordinated and promoted member services and the construction of Chinese medicine undertakings of standard construction, talent training, and technological innovation. A total of 7 international organization standards and 12 branch standards were issued throughout the year. 14 online international Chinese medicine professional level examinations were launched in America, Asia, and Europe., and the number of candidates increased by 37.9% compared with last year. The Chinese journal of "World Chinese Medicine" has been selected as the core journal of China's science and technology for twelve consecutive years, and the English journal has been selected as the core journal of China's science and technology for two consecutive years, and has been included in the international database ESCI.
This year, we and Wang Qi College of the Beijing Traditional Chinese Medicine Conference carried out joint enrollment and joint training of overseas classes (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan), aiming to strengthen the overseas dissemination of Chinese traditional culture and the experience learning of famous Chinese medicine practitioners, and to enhance the academics of overseas medical practitioners And the clinical level, to train more outstanding Chinese medicine talents for the international community.
This year, we formulated and issued the "WFCMS Five-Year Development Plan (2021-2025)", which summarized the current new situation in the international development of Chinese medicine, and summarized the achievements of the WFCMS in the process of promoting the international development of Chinese medicine last year. The achievements and existing problems in the five-year plan period have been clarified and the guiding ideology, basic principles and goals of the international development of Chinese medicine, detailed key tasks and safeguard measures have been clear drawning a new blueprint for the international development of Chinese medicine.
Over the past year, under the leadership of the Board of Directors and the Board of Supervisors, with the joint efforts of its members and branches, WFCMS has insisted on uniting Chinese medicine workers from all over the world, performing their duties and concentrating their efforts, and contributing to the international communication and development of Chinese medicine..
